    Growing City
San Diego has experienced dramatic growth since the mid-1900's. In 1940, it ranked 43rd in population among U.S. cities. But by 1990, it had jumped to 6th. Among the cities in California and on the Pacific Coast, only Los Angeles is larger.

    Geography
The city lies in the southwestern corner of the country and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west and by Mexico on the south. San Diego covers 324 square miles (839 square kilometers). It is the seat of San Diego County. The city's southern boundary forms part of the border between the United States and Mexico. Los Angeles lies about 125 miles (200 kilometers) to the north. The year-round sunshine, 70 miles of beaches, and unlimited outdoor activities appeal to singles and families alike.

    Beautiful Weather
San Diego's southern coastal location combines the warm dry air of the desert with the cool breezes of the Pacific. The result is the fabulous climate that meteorologists have labeled "perfect". Pleasant Weather Rating Service Poll voted San Diego as Best Year-Round Weather in the United States - Second Best in the World.
